What is Cataract

Cataracts are a clouding of the lens in the eye. In general, cataracts are caused by the natural aging process, and with eyes that have been through prolonged exposure to UV (ultraviolet) light.

They can also be triggered by a medical condition, e.g. diabetes, prolonged use of medication, trauma on the eye and chronic inflammation. They also do not discriminate based on age, and may occur in young individuals and even babies at the time of birth.

Cataract in general, caused by natural processes due to our increasing age or may be said as an aging process. It occurs generally in old age and also in eyes with excessive exposure to Ultra violet light.

It could also be due to a medical condition such as diabetes or diabetes mellitus, the use of drugs for a long time, trauma to the eye or chronic inflammation are also risk factors for the development of cataracts.

Sometimes it also occurs in young people or even when the baby is born.

How Do I Get Rid of Cataract?

Treat Cataracts

The Femtosecond Laser splits the lens into smaller pieces, to simplify the ultrasound extraction of the cataract

Treat Cataracts

The cataract is extracted by dint of phacoemulsification

Treat Cataracts

An intraocular lens is inserted to facilitate healing

Cataract cannot be rid of by medication, but must be operated on. Cataract surgery is highly recommended when one’s vision deteriorates to the point where it disrupts day-to-day routine. With the current technology, you don’t need to wait for very long or for the cataract to mature before you can be operated on.

The Intraocular Lens will be adjusted to the conditions of your eye(s), your lifestyle, and your daily needs. The Monofocal IOL already offers an exceptional quality of vision, and is suited to presbyopia OR for when you need to read something up close. This presents the patient with a choice: whether to have both eyes seeing faraway objects clearly and use glasses when reading and vice versa.

The Multifocal IOL is also an option, whereby you will be freed of reading glasses entirely, with little after-effects (e.g. sensitivity to light and seeing halos). This lens can be deployed on most patients, including those who have undergone the LASIK procedure.

Don’t take our word for it, take our doctors’ – professionals in their field who will recommend the appropriate IOL for you.

How to Diagnose Cataract?

Cataract

CATARACT CAN BE DIAGNOSED THROUGH A COMPREHENSIVE EYE SCREENING

  1. Visual Acuity Test: The doctor examines how well you can see increasingly small letters on an eye chart.
  2. Slit-lamp Examination: the doctor examines the front of your eye through magnification.
  3. Retinal Exam: The doctor examines the back of your eye.

Cataract Surgery for Patient Who Have Undergone LASIK

Cataract Surgery

The results of cataract surgery in those who have undergone LASIK can be a little bit unpredictable. This is caused by the inaccuracy of measurement of a patient’s corneal curvature. But our doctors are well trained to handle this sort of thing, and guarantee operational success.

The Technology We Use at Ciputra SMG Eye Clinic

Centurion Vision System

Cataract surgery encompasses a gamut of techniques, and consequently, eyecare specialists around the world have access to a range of options, including sophisticated machinery. The most widely used technique for cataract surgery today is Phacoemulsfication, where a small incision is made at the edge of the cornea, for a phaco tip/probe to pass through. This is an Ultrasonic Phaco, used to break up a cataract-afflicted lens and extract it from within the eyeball.

The New CENTURION Vision System is the only Phaco machine we use in the cataract surgeries we perform. It automatically and continuously adjusts itself to changes in the condition of the eye during the operation, making for better and stabler results.
