The start of me being four-eyed was in grade school. I used to never be able to see the chalkboard up ahead from very far, so I was always in the front row.
And kids being kids, I was the butt of many an unacademic joke (bookworm, teacher’s pet, brown-noser, the like). And when I got it checked out, whaddya know? I was myopic, to the tune of –2.00 diopters. And so came on the glasses, and they stayed on till post-secondary.
But then I started using contacts instead. Marginally better for post-sec student me, but also resulting in very tired and sensitive eyes. After 25 years, I guess I’d had enough, and so I sought LASIK out.
Most people go to Singapore or America (those who can afford it, anywho), but I did my research, and I finally decided to go with Ciputra SMG Eye Clinic. Why? you may ask. Before I could do anything, I had to make sure my contacts were off for at least two weeks. I was booked in for December 27th, and after an eye screening, they gave me the go-ahead for the procedure. Dr. Utami led me straight into the operating room. I was some nervous, I tell you what. But the nurses and doctors here are doing what they do best, and their professionalism convinced me that I was in the right hands.

Not twenty minutes later, I was out and about 10 minutes per eye. That’s INSANE.
Sure, I was a bit discombobulated at first, but 3 to 6 hours later and I was jumping for joy like a jungle cat. My vision was back to normal.
Whenever I wake up, the first thing I usually do is look for my glasses. But not anymore. I open my eyes and the world hits me in full swing.
I’m a real sports freak, too, and I’d have to wear my glasses even to the gym. Well, contacts, because the sweat would fog up my glasses and they’d be useless.
Now, I get up and go hit the gym, no sweat (pun intended).
