LASIK Eye Surgery in 2020: Information, Comparisons and Costs
How much is the LASIK eye for 2020?
The price of LASIK eye surgery in Indonesia ranges from IDR 10 million to IDR 25 million per eye. This range of costs includes services for consulting doctors and medicines, some for not.
Currently the most commonly used methods are ReLEx Smile and FemtoLASIK which provide more comfort to patients, such as a high level of precision, shorter operating time and faster postoperative recovery time.
On the other hand, there is also an old method for correcting nearsightedness namely Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK) which also uses a laser in the process. However, post-operative recovery of the CRP requires a longer time compared to LASIK, recovery time from 1 to 3 months, compared to LASIK procedures which are only less than a month.
LASIK surgery is an operation performed with the aim of correcting refractive abnormalities in the eye so as to reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses for a higher quality of life.
Methods and Costs of FemtoLASIK 2020
Femtosecond laser is used to correct vision (nearsightedness and cylinders) by making thin flaps on the cornea and followed by an excimer laser used to form corneal curvature, after that the flap is returned to its original position.
Using a Femtosecond method can replace the function of a scalpel to cut flaps, like in the microkeratome method. It will make LASIK patients feel more comfortable by knowing that no knife is used on their eyes. In addition, this method reduce the risk of corneal injury and inflammation during surgery due to the advantage where thickness of the corneal flap more easily predicted. In some cases, the Femtosecond laser also makes it possible to make thinner corneal flaps aimed at safely correcting much higher nearsightedness.
The procedure of FemtoLASIK as a whole lasts for 10-15 minutes using a MEL-80 machine.
1. In the first step, the Femtosecond Laser creates a flap in the cornea area.
2. Second step, the flap is opened and the laser process using an excimer laser is performed on the surface of the cornea that has been opened.
3. And after completion, the flap will be returned to its original position.
The side effects of the FemtoLASIK Method will be different for each person and in general; in the form of dry eyes, lumps, and glare after surgery. However, this is temporary and will disappear over time.
The cost of eye lasik 2020 with the FemtoLASIK method in Ciputra SMG Eye Clinic is Rp14,000,000/eye.
Methods and Costs of ReLEx® SMILE (SMall Incision Lenticule Extraction) 2020
The eye surgery on the ReLEx SMILE method is performed using the Visumax Femtosecond laser, which is the latest technology from Carl Zeiss Meditec, a German company that is very experienced in the optical field. Compared to Femto LASIK, the ReLEx® SMILE method does not require a flap opening.
The ReLEx® SMILE method only takes a total of 10 minutes by laser processing for only 24 seconds / eye. An incision in the cornea is also only made at 2-4 mm, in order to maintain the structure of the cornea remains stable. Moreover, the risk and symptoms of dry eyes after surgery are very small with the application of this method.
There are three steps of ReLEx® SMILE procedure:
- Making Lenticule
The Femtosecond Visumax laser will create a lenticule, a thin layer of corneal tissue and 2-4mm small incisions on the corneas.
- Removing the Lenticule
Lenticule will be removed through an incision
- Correction for refraction failure
With the release of the lenticule will change the shape of the cornea and the path of light entering the eye; it will create sharp vision.
The side effects after surgery on each person will also vary, but in general patients will feel the foggy eyes, glare in the first 4-6 hours. Please note, this is very normal and will disappear over time
The cost of eye lasik in 2020 with the ReLEx SMILE method at Ciputra SMG Eye Clinic is Rp19,000,000/eye.
Is the cost of Eye LASIK 2020 covered by BPJS (Indonesian Government Health Insurance) ?
This question is very common and often asked by patients. However, LASIK surgery is surgery for cosmetic and aesthetic purposes, moreover it is included as non-essential surgery. Thus, health insurace from the Indonesian government does not cover the costs of LASIK operations and only covers the costs of cataract operations or another eye diseases.
